What is a thing?

Can somebody please describe to me what having a “thing” is?

I think me and this guy I sort of dated had it, but it was casual cause he never met my parents, although we definitely went past first base, but it wasn’t Facebook official or anything like that, however we were totally exclusive…. I think. You know? Did we have a “thing”?

I can remember bedtime stories of once upon a time, before Mac and Microsoft ruled the land, my mother met my father at a grocery store and he asked her out on a date. Like... in person... Face to face. He literally verbalized the words “Can I take you out for dinner?” I know it’s crazy. And not to put you into cardiac arrest, but she didn’t even stalk him on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or any other social media site beforehand. They like....actually got to know each other.... IN REAL LIFE!!!

This fairytale is far off from the current relationship I am in.

I met him in psychology about a month ago. Exchanging long enough eye contact to show you’re interested, but not long enough to seem like you’re gonna watch them sleep through their windows at night.

Technically, we never officially met in psychology, because who needs to make friends in real life when you can “officially” become friends on Facebook! As soon as I saw that little red friend request notification I knew it was him. It was fate. Sheer fate. From that moment on we still continue to poke, Facebook chat, and truly just support each other via likes.

Although we never have really spoke in class and life, we both know in cyber world, we are soul mates.  It’s just simple between us.. No bickering about ordering Chinese or pizza, I don't have to worry about silky smooth legs, and most of all, I have enough time to message him in the way that I want him to perceive me.

At the end of the day, it really just comes down to who texts you goodnight.

Those are the ones that truly matter.
