I Want to Be Apart of It.
Well I haven’t gotten a chance to write in a while, because I feel like I haven’t had any mental room for anything besides freaking out over this move.
I apologize to my friends and family who have had to deal with my space cadet presence lately (you know who you are).
But it’s official. I am now living in New York City (Hells Kitchen, Manhattan, to be exact).
“What!!!! You’re living in hell Madison?!?!”- My Dad
There are several explanations for the name but according to the New York Times, the name first appeared in print on Sept 22, 1881, when a reporter referred to the details of a mass murder on West 39th street as “Hells Kitchen” saying the entire area was “probably the lowest and filthiest in the city”.
Awesome!!
Bring on the sweet dreams….
Can’t wait to be in a real life crime scene investigation ...

Nah, all jokes aside, despite its rough history, this area is just midtown west; a great place to live due to its central location and shit ton of restaurants.
After living in nyc for the past few weeks, it’s already apparent why no one cooks in this city. I thought the excessive amount of Chinese take-out people ordered in the movies wasn't real, but it’s actually a thing. With a take-out app called Seamless, I really don’t think I’ll ever have to cook again, let alone leave my apartment. Free delivery. Food at your door in less than 30 minutes. It's truly life changing (probably not in a good way).
What else I've come to understand is how fast paced it is here. If you really want to feel like you live in nyc, just close your eyes and imagine you’re a hamster running on a wheel that never stops. That is New York. No matter what day of the week it is, there is always something going on. This city breathes energy, and you pick up on it fast. Apparently going to the gym once a day here is slacking off... now that's a little excessive.
I admit sometimes I get a little thrown off traveling back and forth from coast to coast because of the obvious difference. West Coast Canada is a relaxing, kind environment where people take time out of their day to get to know one another. East Coast NYC on the other hand makes me think of Sweet Brown, "AIN'T NOBODY GOT TIME FO DAT" because people are straight up, don't sugar coat anything, and fend for themselves, which at the end of the day, aren’t really bad traits to have!
All in all, although it may seem a little overwhelming at first, which it is, I don’t think there's any other city in the world I'd rather be. There is something so exciting about being among 1.6 million people on this tiny little island alone. And I must admit, being able to see the Empire State building from my bedroom window is probably one of the coolest things ever.
